Every Christian has a responsiblity to share Christ with others, however we aren’t all gifted communicators. Below is a strategy we have developed to help you with this responsiblity. Start where you are. God is waiting to use you.
A Simple Approach:
- Live expectantly and making yourself available to the Spirit’s Leading’s Pray everyday that God would lead you to a person or open an opportunity to connect with a person who needs introduced to Christ. Be sensitive and obedient to the Spirit’s leading and promptings.
- Make friends with non-believers by being a caring listener. After conversion believers often loose connections with non-believers and develop friendships comprised mostly of “church folk.” Its important to reach out to non-believers and the best way to do this is to be a good listener. People need to know how much you care before they will listen to what you know.
- Live a life that’s attractive and positive. Develop and maintain a positive, up-beat attitude. The Christian life, while not immune from problems, should be viewed by outsiders as a life full of hope, peace and joy.
- Announce to others that you are a Christ-follower. Let your co-workers, neighbors and friends know that you have committed your life to Christ. This isn’t bragging, its not boasting, it’s a simple fact. Let others know that you identify yourself with the Christian faith.
- Tell others how Christ has made your life different and better. Share with others how your life has changed since you became a Christian. Testify to God’s goodness, His care and love in your life. Let others know how becoming a believer has improved your quality of life.
- Invite others to attend Church and other Christian activities. Studies show that many people would attend a church function if asked. You can help a person find Christ by asking them to attend a service, an event or a program at your church.
- Be prepared to tell a seeker the simple Gospel story. When the time is right, be prepared to share how Christ died for sins, rose again from the dead and is coming back to take all Believers to heaven to be with him.
A Simple Message to Convey:
- Help the person understand that sin separates them from God.
- Explain how Jesus’ death on the cross takes care of the penalty for all sin and bridges the gap.
- Help the person understand their need to depend upon the work of Christ on the cross. This is a step of faith and simple belief.
- Encourage the person to express sincere remorse for their sins and pray for forgiveness
- Assure the person through Scripture that all sins are forgiven through faith in Christ.
- Explain that accepting Christ includes surrendering to Christ’s authority. It doesn’t mean living a perfect life, but it does require a commitment to discover God’s will and obey.
- Always keep your trust in the work of the Holy Spirit. You can’t win a person to Christ.
